How to Make a Floating Wood Light Fixture Using Fruit Bowls, with a metal fruit container, a cutting drill, and a light bulb with an electrical system, you can create an original ceiling lamp that matches the decoration of the room.

So armed with lamp accessories, driftwood, and some fruit bowls, we were ready to do something different.
Step 1: Materials and tools

You will need…
- Some recycled wood
- 2 Fruit bowls
- 2 Meters of electrical cable (two cores or three cores if you plan to ground it)
- 2.5 Meters of thin copper wire
- Copper studs
- 2 Mounting Eyelets and Hooks
- 2 Lamp Accessories
- 2 energy saving bulbs (15 watts)
- Electrical connectors
- Pencil and tape measure
- Hand Saw
- Scissors and pliers
- Hammer and chisel
- Router and drill
- Screwdriver
Step 2: Select and clean

This wood comes in all shapes and sizes, so find something with a shape and color suitable for the desired room.
I decided to use a single 'board', however I could achieve a similar effect using three thinner 'branches'.
Brush and wash driftwood with hot soapy water.
Step 3: Cut the size

Decide where the best fruit bowls are located. I placed half a fruit bowl on the ends with a space for fruit bowls in the middle.
If your driftwood requires cutting, score a rough edge and jigsaw the edge so it looks naturally distressed.
Step 4: Prepare and level the wood

Once the fixture is installed, you will want the fruit bowls (light shades) to hang from each other and be parallel to the floor.
To achieve this, mark and chisel any uneven areas until the bowls are level.
Step 5: Drill fixing holes

Mark and drill fixing holes to attach the fruit bowls to the driftwood.
Punch a larger hole (suitable for the electrical cord) near the center of each fruit bowl.
To hide the cable from above, you can route a channel from one hole to the other.
Step 6: Secure the fruit bowls

Taking the copper wire, thread it through the holes and around the points on the base of the fruit bowl, returning once again through the holes.
Secure the copper wires around individual copper studs hammered from above.
Step 7: Make the connectionsof the lamp

Push the power cord through the center hole from the top. Remove the external insulation and connect it to the lamp connection.
If the wire insulation may be compromised anyway, you may need to connect a ground wire to that metal (depending on your choice of fruit bowl).
Use the copper wire, wrapping it around the shade clamp of the lamp fixture and the fruit bowl, to hold the fixture firmly in place. Repeat with the second fixture, running both cables along the channel routed above.
Finally, connect the two wires using electrical connectors (neutral to neutral and if necessary, ground to ground).
DISCLAIMER:
Never do electrical work unless you are sure you have the skills and knowledge to do the work safely.
Accidents, and sometimes deaths, can occur because people don't know what they are doing.
Electrical work can be unsafe and illegal if not done correctly.
If you have any questions about carrying out any electrical work in your home, speak to your friendly local electrician.
Step 8: Prepare to assemble and connect

Attach the grommets to the top of the light fixture, making sure it is completely balanced with the fruit bowls parallel to the floor.
Screw the corresponding hooks into the ceiling, making sure it is firmly on the joist.
Finally, with the power off, mount the fixture and connect it to the ceiling.
Step 9: Savor the uniqueness

So now you have a unique lighting solution... Much more than just a talking point... It also looks very beautiful.
