Amazing wooden sandbox with folding lid, this sandbox with folding benches is an absolute gem of a DIY project.

It's a brilliant but remarkably simple design that can be done from start to finish in a couple of nights.

Project: Similar Ideas

Procedure:

Step 1: Create wooden box

This project was dead easy to put together.

I cut the floorboards and lumber to size.

Create a basic box, inserting the short sides as shown above.

You can use pocket holes or pre-drill the long sides and use 1 1/4" screws.

Step 2: Screw two boards together

Screw two boards together on each side, countersinking the screws through the top. Space boards 1/2" apart

Step 3: Create seat

Create what will become the seat.

Screw the 1 x 4 boards (1/2" apart) into the 2 x 4 armrests (d).

Make sure the 2 x 4s are at least 1" from the edge box to allow them to fold into the box. . (You will be making two of these)

Step 4:  Create support

I found it easier to place the hinge on the seat (on the opposite side of the armrest) and THEN it attaches to the board with screws.

Be sure to space them 1/2" apart.

Step 5: Create the seat back

Create the back of the seat. Screw your (e) boards to the ends of the final 1 x 4s.

Make sure the 1 x 4s are 1/2" apart.

If you plan to add rope, drill through the 2 x 4s completely, between the 1 x 4s and at the bottom of the "inside" 1 x 4 (the one closest to the 2 x 4 overhang).

If you plan to add handles, you can attach them wherever you like (you will be making two of these)
