Emery's Camp Nou Comeback: Aston Villa Focus on European Blur 2026

Unai Emery's return to Camp Nou with Aston Villa in the Champions League is a moment of personal history, but the manager is keen to focus on the present European blur rather than the past. The Spaniard faced questions about the infamous remontada—the 2017 comeback where Barcelona overturned a 4-0 deficit against his PSG side—but Emery dismissed the significance, emphasizing his continuous learning over 22 years of coaching.

Emery's response, "One more match. Just one more match," underscores his pragmatic approach. He has moved on from that traumatic night, winning a domestic treble with PSG and adding two more European trophies to his name. Now at Aston Villa, he faces a new challenge: navigating a congested fixture schedule that has turned European football into a "hopeless and baggy blur."

After the Camp Nou collapse, he stayed in Paris for another season, secured a domestic treble, and later won the Europa League with Villarreal.
