The FCC chair Brendan Carr has been revealed to have coordinated closely with the White House and rightwing media, according to documents obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request. These records show a remarkable breadth of access to FCC leadership, raising questions about regulatory independence.
Key Findings from the FCC Documents
Between March 2025 and February 2026, Carr attended at least eight meetings at the White House and had three scheduled calls with administration officials, including two with Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. He also spoke with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and met with media executives like Fox Corp CEO Lachlan Murdoch and Sinclair Broadcast Group chair David Smith.

Coordination with Rightwing Media
The documents reveal a deliberate media strategy, including communications with Fox News producers. This coordination came to light after Carr issued an unprecedented order forcing ABC to apply early for license renewals, just one day after President Trump and Melania called for punishment over a Jimmy Kimmel joke.
| Date | Meeting/Call | Participant |
|---|---|---|
| March 2025 | White House Meeting | White House Staff |
| June 2025 | Phone Call | Susie Wiles |
| September 2025 | Meeting | Lachlan Murdoch |
| January 2026 | Phone Call | RFK Jr. |
Implications for Media Regulation
This level of access undermines the FCC's role as an independent regulator. Carr's refusal to discuss White House interactions, citing a general policy, contrasts with the documented frequency of contact. The ABC license renewal case highlights how political pressure may influence regulatory actions.
Key Takeaways
- FCC chair had at least 8 White House meetings in under a year.
- Direct calls with top officials including Susie Wiles and RFK Jr.

What This Means for the Public
When regulators align with political interests, public trust erodes. The FCC's mandate to serve the public interest is compromised if decisions are made in coordination with the executive branch and media allies. This investigation calls for greater transparency and accountability.
