Fever Coach Stephanie White Hits Back at Critics Over Cunningham 2026

The Indiana Fever's Stephanie White has fiercely defended her handling of the Sophie Cunningham controversy, telling critics to "go to hell" amid mounting backlash. The controversy stems from a Flagrant 2 foul by Chicago Sky's DiJonai Carrington that struck Cunningham in the head and neck during Saturday's game.

White's Defiant Response to Critics

White, who previously coached Carrington at the Connecticut Sun, faced boos from Fever fans before Tuesday's win over the New York Liberty. Indiana's lieutenant governor even called for her firing. After the game, White pounded the table and delivered an impassioned speech, saying, "The hate, the fear-mongering, the divisiveness... will not win. Love will win. Grace will win. Humility will win, and kindness will win."

White also rebutted claims that she doesn't have her players' backs, emphasizing that player safety is her top priority. She explained she hadn't seen the replay in real time and initially thought the call was correct, but upon review, deemed the foul "egregious."

Player Support and Team Unity

Sophie Cunningham has publicly supported White, indicating the team remains united. The Fever's 86-75 victory over the Liberty showcased their resilience despite the off-court drama.
