A Louisiana House candidate accused of rape is now hoping to again earn Donald Trump's endorsement after a landmark redistricting ruling. State Senator Blake Miguez, who denies the allegation, faces a complex political path as he weighs running in one of two redrawn congressional districts. The controversy has thrust his campaign into the national spotlight.
The Allegation and Miguez's Denial
In 2007, a police report was filed accusing Miguez of rape, but no charges were ever brought. The existence of the report was recently revealed by The Atlantic and independently confirmed by The Guardian. Miguez has not disclosed this to Trump's team prior to securing the president's endorsement. Asked about the report, a campaign spokesperson reiterated that Miguez denies the accusation and that no legal action was taken.

Redistricting Shifts the Political Landscape
The U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Callais v. Louisiana forced the state to redraw its House districts. This eliminated the district where Miguez originally qualified and received Trump's endorsement. He now must decide which of two new districts to run in—neither of which he lives in, though state law permits it. The primary originally scheduled for May 16 was postponed to November, giving Miguez time to rebuild his campaign.
Trump's Endorsement Status
A White House spokesperson clarified that Trump has not formally rescinded his endorsement. However, they added that the president “will look at the candidate field after candidate [qualifying] if necessary.” This leaves the door open for Miguez to regain the coveted backing—or for Trump to support a different candidate.

|---|---|---|
