A pregnant Palestinian woman was among more than 10 people killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza over the past 48 hours, according to medical sources and family members. The woman, identified as Iman Shalouf, 27, was nearly eight months pregnant when she was shot in the head by Israeli forces in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, south of Gaza.

Details of the Attack

Shalouf was sitting inside her family's tent when Israeli gunfire struck her in the head, according to paramedics and witnesses. Her mother-in-law, Wathfa abu Mashi, recounted the harrowing moment in a video interview with Anadolu: "We heard the sound of gunfire while I was praying. My daughter asked me, 'Where is Iman?' I told her she was in her tent. She went to check on her and found her covered in blood after she was hit by a bullet."

Shalouf was rushed to Nasser hospital, where doctors initially detected her unborn baby's heartbeat. However, a few hours later, both Shalouf and her unborn baby died. Relatives said she had already chosen the name Ayoub for the baby, who was due in November.

Ongoing Violence and Ceasefire Pleas

The attack is part of a broader surge in violence across Gaza. Over the previous 48 hours, strikes killed more than 10 people, according to local authorities. Ismail abu Mashi, Shalouf's husband, expressed frustration over the lack of a ceasefire: "Where is the ceasefire they keep talking about? There is no such thing. There is killing every day. People are dying here every day."

Relatives and community members gathered at Nasser hospital on Saturday to hold funeral prayers for Shalouf and her child before carrying the bodies for burial.

Impact on Civilians

The death of Shalouf and her unborn child underscores the devastating toll on civilians, particularly pregnant women and children, in the ongoing conflict. According to the United Nations, over 70% of those killed in Gaza are women and children. The healthcare system in Gaza remains overwhelmed, with hospitals struggling to provide basic care.
