The Trump administration's pause on Iran strikes continues for a third night, as the Pentagon releases updated casualty figures showing 18 US troops killed and 624 wounded since the conflict began. This pause marks a critical juncture in the nearly five-month-old war, with diplomatic negotiations ongoing to prevent a return to all-out war.
Oil prices fell on Monday as markets responded to the pause in combat, and Tehran announced it would pause what it called 'retaliatory' attacks against US allies in the region. President Trump is said to be weighing diplomatic and military options, with top military advisors urging restraint.

Pentagon's Updated Casualty Figures
The Pentagon's official war casualty database was updated over the weekend, adding more than 140 wounded service members. This brings the total to 18 US troops killed and 624 wounded since the US launched its war against Iran on 28 February. These figures highlight the human cost of the conflict and the ongoing toll on American forces.
Military Advisors Urge Halt
According to Axios, Adm Bradley Cooper, the top US military commander in the region, told Trump that the US military campaign had reached the limits of its effectiveness. This advice appears to have influenced the pause, as the administration explores alternative strategies.
Katy Perry Condemns Use of 'Firework' in War Video
The White House used Katy Perry's hit song 'Firework' in a TikTok video showing US military strikes on Iranian targets. Perry responded on social media, saying: "I did not approve this, I was not asked, and I absolutely do not condone it. I wrote this song to be an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength … my music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare."
Diplomatic Efforts and Regional Tensions
Tehran's pause on retaliatory attacks against US allies is seen as a positive sign, but tensions remain high. The conflict has drawn in regional actors, and the international community is closely watching for a potential de-escalation.
Netanyahu-Mamdani Dispute
In a separate development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani of 'fomenting hate' after Mamdani called Netanyahu a war criminal and suggested he should be arrested if he visits the city for the UN General Assembly. Netanyahu defended his actions, saying he is the mayor of all New Yorkers.
