The US Fifth Fleet was targeted in Bahrain by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing exchange of strikes between the two nations. This development, reported by Reuters, highlights the growing instability in the Middle East and its potential impact on global energy markets.
Iran's Attack on US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for targeting command-and-control, logistics, fuel, and military equipment facilities belonging to the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. The Guards stated this was in response to US actions in the Indian Ocean and efforts to control the Strait of Hormuz, restricting shipping routes. They warned that if Washington seeks to block regional oil and gas exports by controlling maritime routes, other export routes serving US and allied interests could also be closed.

US Central Command Responds with Strikes
US Central Command (Centcom) completed an additional round of strikes against Iran on July 14, hitting dozens of military targets near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian coastal areas. According to Centcom, US fighter aircraft, drones, and naval vessels launched precision munitions against Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, and coastal defense systems during a seven-hour wave. The goal was to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian crews.
Strait of Hormuz Closure Threat
Iran's revolutionary guards have stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the "end of America's evils," according to Reuters. They also claimed attacks on Kuwait's Mina Abdullah, destroying a US military logistics and support center. The Guardian could not immediately verify these claims. The Iranian army also reported targeting US military facilities at Azraq base in Jordan for a second time.
