Civilian Infrastructure Under Attack
The US focused on critical infrastructure including six bridges and a railway station, which are vital for Iran’s transportation and logistics. The port control tower strike aimed to disrupt maritime operations, while the airport hit affects civilian air travel. These actions have drawn international condemnation and raised questions about the legality of targeting non-military sites.
Iran’s Retaliation and Regional Impact
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired on Middle Eastern nations hosting US bases, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Qatar. The IRGC claimed to have targeted US radar systems and military aircraft in Qatar, with Doha confirming it intercepted a missile attack. Kuwait’s energy ministry reported that an Iranian attack damaged one of its power and water desalination plants, causing a fire.

Global Implications and Market Reactions
The conflict threatens to disrupt global oil supplies, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for energy transit. IRGC aerospace chief Majid Mousavi stated that strikes “will continue until peace is restored to the southern coastline and the strait of Hormuz.” This rhetoric has already spiked oil prices and caused volatility in financial markets.
Regional Leaders React
Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani denounced the “unjustified attacks” on the region, blaming Iran for the escalation. He called on the Iraqi federal government and the international community to intervene. The UK Maritime Trade Operations also issued warnings about increased risks in the region.
