The US military has completed a fresh wave of evening strikes against Iranian targets, escalating tensions in the Middle East. This latest attack wave on Iran is part of ongoing efforts to degrade Iran’s ability to threaten ships transiting the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil passage.
Targets and Immediate Impact
The strikes focused on key Iranian military installations, including the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, home to critical navy and Revolutionary Guard facilities. Additional targets included Greater Tunb Island, as confirmed by Central Command (Centcom). The US military stated it is “holding Iran accountable at the Commander in Chief’s direction,” referring to President Donald Trump.

Iranian officials reported that the strikes hit an army barracks, killing at least seven troops and wounding hundreds across the country. The health ministry said at least 30 people have been killed in southern Iran in US attacks over recent days, with more than 260 injured.
Iranian Retaliation
In response, the Iranian army targeted US military facilities in Jordan with drones, striking communication systems and fuel storage using kamikaze drones, according to state media. Iran also launched retaliatory missile and drone fire at Bahrain and Kuwait. Explosions were reported in several Iranian cities, including Bandar Abbas, Rask, Chabahar, Qeshm, Bandar Imam Khomeini, and Bushehr—home to Iran’s only civilian nuclear plant. Air defenses were activated in Tehran.
Strait of Hormuz: A Global Flashpoint
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway through which about 20% of the world’s oil passes. Any disruption here could spike global energy prices and destabilize economies. The US strikes aim to neutralize threats to this critical chokepoint, but Iranian retaliation raises the risk of broader conflict.
| Target Location | Type of Facility | Reported Casualties |
|---|---|---|
| Bandar Abbas | Navy & Revolutionary Guard | Multiple killed/wounded |
| Greater Tunb Island | Military base | Unconfirmed |
| Bushehr | Nuclear plant (civilian) | No damage reported |
| Jordan (US facility) | Communication & fuel storage | Under assessment |
