George Michael's secret duets album, known as Trojan Souls, remains one of the most tantalizing what-ifs in music history. Conceived in 1992 amid a legal battle with Sony, the project aimed to have musical legends like Aretha Franklin and Janet Jackson sing tracks under a collective alias. But tragedy struck when Michael's partner died of AIDS in 1993, and the album was shelved forever.
The Birth of Trojan Souls
Frustrated by his contract dispute, Michael decided to channel his energy into a creative rebellion. He envisioned a supergroup of iconic voices, each performing a song he wrote and produced. Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, and Sade Adu were among the artists approached. Michael worked tirelessly for months until personal loss derailed everything.
