The adaptation of Jackie Collins' Married Men as a puppet show is a glorious, filthy spectacle that brings her bonkbuster to life in miniature. The Swedish company Malmö Dockteater has created an adult puppet version of Collins' first novel, set in swinging 1960s Hampstead, using repurposed Barbie dolls with explicit anatomy. Directed by Erik Holmström, the production features life-sized puppeteers and a roving camera that projects close-ups of the doll-sized sex acts onto a big screen.
The Plot of Jackie Collins' Married Men Puppet Show
The story follows a marriage in crisis, infidelity, and female ambition in a predatory film industry, themes that predate the #MeToo movement. The dolls are equipped with pubic hair, giant erections, and surround-sound breathing, making the sex scenes graphic yet oddly humorous. The script, originally in Swedish and translated by Lulu Raczka, retains Collins' robust narrative voice.

Barbie Dolls and Explicit Puppetry
The puppeteers, Erik Olsson and Kajsa Ericsson, voice all characters and sometimes appear as life-sized versions of the dolls. The miniature lightboxes designed by Maja Kall are filled with exquisite 1960s details, from wallpaper to drinks cabinets and hotel-room shag pads. The sound effects are equally graphic, enhancing the raunchy atmosphere.
| Puppet Show | Content | Audience Rating |
|---|---|---|
| Married Men Puppet Show | Explicit sex, nudity, adult themes | 18+ only |
| Avenue Q | Adult humor, mild sex references | 16+ |
| The Muppet Christmas Carol | Family-friendly, no sexual content | All ages |
This production makes Avenue Q look tame by comparison. It is a true adult puppet show that pushes boundaries with its raw depiction of human sexuality.
