From citrus celebrations on the French Riviera to dessert competitions in Italy, these events offer travelers a taste of authentic culture. Whether you are a foodie or a casual traveler, these festivals promise unforgettable experiences.

Menton Lemon Festival: A Zesty French Tradition

Held annually in the charming town of Menton on the French Riviera, the Menton Lemon Festival (Fête du Citron) runs from 10 to 28 February 2027. The town’s microclimate, shielded by the Alps, produces lemons with a distinct fragrance and flavor. Visitors enjoy food tastings, citrus-based salads, tarts, cakes, and pies at stalls and markets. The event also features spectacular sculptures made from citrus fruit, parades, and exhibitions in the Golden Garden of Light (Jardins Biovès). It’s more than a food festival—it’s a celebration of nature’s bounty.

Tiramisù World Cup: Italy’s Sweetest Competition

In the Veneto region, the Tiramisù World Cup takes place each autumn in Treviso, near Venice. Over three days, visitors enjoy tastings, demonstrations from local chefs, and a public judging contest. Folk music fills the streets, and restaurants offer promotional set meals from about €20 for two courses. A highlight is gliding along canals in a mini gondola, prosecco in one hand and tiramisu in the other, with the snowy Dolomites in the distance.

Gota Cotta Festival: Tuscany’s Pork Cheek Celebration

In Tuscany, the Gota Cotta festival (4 October) celebrates a local delicacy: pork cheeks. Originally a niche product, it was revived by local butchers. The event takes over the medieval hilltop town of Colle di Val d’Elsa in Siena province. Stalls sell everything from pasta to gelato—all made with pork cheek. Excellent wine and craft beers accompany the food, making it a true Tuscan feast.
