Ben Stokes England Return Possible Says Rob Key Ashes 2026

Ben Stokes England return rumors are heating up after Rob Key, England's managing director, hinted that the former captain could come back for the Ashes. Key said, "Anything's possible with Ben," leaving fans and analysts speculating about a dramatic comeback.

Rob Key Opens Door for Stokes Comeback

In a recent interview, Rob Key admitted he "wouldn't be surprised" if Ben Stokes reverses his retirement and rejoins the Test squad. Stokes stepped away from international cricket just a month ago, citing physical and mental exhaustion, but Key insists their relationship remains strong.

"Not at all, not as far as I’m concerned," Key said when asked if Stokes’ retirement had damaged their rapport. Although there has been no direct contact, Key’s comments suggest that a return is not off the table, especially with the Ashes on the horizon.

New Coaching Setup Could Entice Stokes

England recently sacked Brendon McCullum as Test coach, replacing him with Stephen Fleming. Fleming, a former New Zealand captain, will take charge ahead of the Ashes, and Key believes this fresh leadership could appeal to Stokes.

"My job is to get the best person for the job," Key said, defending the appointment. Fleming will miss the Pakistan tour for family reasons, but Key insists that was not a dealbreaker. The new coach is expected to bring a fresh perspective, which might lure Stokes back.
