Spain's unbeaten run of 37 matches has set a new European record, but the ultimate test awaits in the World Cup final. The Spanish side has been dominant, with a 2-0 victory over France extending their streak and matching Italy's historic run from 2018 to 2021. However, a penalty shootout loss to Portugal in the 2025 Nations League final shows that no team is truly invincible.
How Spain's Unbeaten Run Compares to History
Spain's streak is the longest by any European team, equaling Italy's 37-match unbeaten run. Unlike Italy, who won Euro 2020 during their stretch, Spain has yet to secure a major trophy in this period. South American giants Brazil and Argentina have also come close, with Brazil going 36 matches unbeaten between 1993 and 1996 and Argentina matching that from 2019 to 2022. Argentina's run ended with a stunning loss to Saudi Arabia, but they rebounded to win the World Cup.
