After wrapping up the first three-day series of our theoretical-practical bird control course, we can confidently say we hit the mark. The course day was designed to give ample space to hands-on practice, and each participant got to try their hand at building a short but tricky section of the three main bird control systems: electrified, wire-and-spring, and netting.
Three bird control experts helped and advised the "students" as they built their own systems, and it was fun to see even experienced participants tackle the different application types with some difficulty deliberately set up for them. The relaxed yet focused atmosphere certainly helped make the day productive for everyone who attended.
Now we have the February series ahead… and then what? Given the enthusiasm with which the proposal was received and the effective execution, more courses will definitely be organized in the fall: stay tuned so you don't miss the opportunity!
Course Highlights
The course was structured to maximize practical learning. Each attendee rotated through three stations, each focusing on a different bird control method. From electrified tracks to tensioned wire systems and durable netting, participants gained real-world experience under expert supervision.
Electrified Systems
Participants learned how to install low-voltage electrified tracks on ledges and roof edges. These systems deliver a harmless but memorable shock to birds, training them to avoid the area. The hands-on session covered wire spacing, tensioning, and connection to power units.
Wire-and-Spring (Ballerino Wire)
This classic system uses stainless steel wires and springs to create an unstable landing surface. Attendees practiced anchoring, tensioning, and adjusting the springs to ensure birds cannot perch comfortably. The technique is ideal for signs, parapets, and narrow ledges.
Netting Systems
Netting is the go-to solution for excluding birds from large areas like warehouses, courtyards, and building facades. Students installed netting over open structures, learning how to secure edges, create access flaps, and maintain tension for long-lasting results.
Expert Guidance
Three seasoned bird control professionals circulated among the groups, offering tips and troubleshooting. They demonstrated advanced techniques for handling tricky architectural features and shared insights on local bird species and regulations. Their mentorship turned a simple training day into a masterclass.
