Andoni Iraola has made it clear he is determined to keep Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson at Liverpool this season, despite intense transfer speculation linking both stars with moves away from Anfield. The new Liverpool head coach, speaking during the club's pre-season tour in Chicago, emphasized his commitment to retaining key players as he builds for the upcoming campaign.
Iraola's stance on Mac Allister's future
Alexis Mac Allister, who played a pivotal role in Argentina's World Cup run, has been heavily linked with a transfer to Real Madrid. However, Iraola dismissed any notion of the midfielder leaving, stating: "I think Alexis has been one of the best players at the club for the last few years, and he has had a very good World Cup, so it is normal that other clubs want our best players." The manager confirmed Mac Allister is under contract until 2028 and remains central to his plans, though he may not be fully match-fit for the Premier League opener against Newcastle due to a post-tournament break.

Alisson's commitment to Liverpool
Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson has also faced questions about his future, with Juventus reportedly interested. Iraola reassured fans, saying: "I am very happy with the situation we have right now in the goalkeeping area. We have Alisson, we have Giorgi [Mamardashvili]." The manager highlighted Alisson's leadership and experience as vital for integrating new signings and young players into the squad.
Squad depth and injury updates
Iraola acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting that Hugo Ekitiké and Conor Bradley will be sidelined for several more months. Despite these setbacks, the head coach expressed confidence in the current roster and hinted at potential new arrivals. "I'm looking forward more to signing new players rather than losing the ones we have here," he added.
