Triangle Shaped Shelves, you can make 6 to 10 of these on a single sheet of 2'x4' birch plywood, depending on the size of shelves you choose.

Watch the video to see detailed images.
Step 1: Materials
This project really only has one material, so it's super cheap and super easy. I purchased a single piece of 2’x4′ – 3/4″ plywood for this project.
Now you could upgrade the plywood to an even nicer Baltic Birch ply (which I think has awesome visual appeal).
The key is that you can still get a great look with a cheaper version and save yourself some money.
Step 2: Make the cuts

Before cutting your materials, you should figure out the dimensions you want for your shelves. For the video I chose 4″ deep by 12″ high shelves.
This size is large enough for a few small items on shelves, such as candles, succulents, small books, etc.
The larger the shelves, the less you can do in one piece, so be creative and think about the items you want to display on them once you're done and work backwards from there.
Once you have the torn strips, it's time to take them to the saw to cut the miters and cut each piece to size.
You will need to set your chop saw blade to 30 degrees. You can also do this by hand with a miter box if you're looking for more exercise, or use a crosscut sled on your table saw if you have one.
If you are cutting the pieces on the saw like the one I show you here, I recommend two things.
- Place painters tape over the area to be cut to prevent tearing.
- Place a stop block on your saw so that each piece is cut the same length.
- Cut each end so the piece looks like a parallelogram by cutting one end, flip the piece 180 degrees, and cut again. Watch the video to see how I did it.
Step 3: Assembly and gluing

The pieces go together like this. Each one overlaps the other creating a triangle.
I recommend using some sandpaper at this point, just clean the joints before gluing them. Something like 120 grit would work well.
Clean up the edges so you have nice clean corners to glue.
Not having the nailing holes is a nice bonus, so I didn't need any wood filler or anything. The glue dried in 30 minutes and could go into the finish!
Like traditional wood glue, so make sure you stick it fast once you start.
Step 4: Finishing

Once dry, all that was left to do was finish sanding the shelves.
I hit the shelves first with 120 grit sandpaper on the orbital sander and then 220 grit for final smoothing.
For the finish I chose an oil finish for the shelves.
It brings out the grain in the cape and especially adds a contrast in the cape layers on the sides, which I think looks stunning and also adds a protective varnish finish.
Here is the finished product mounted on the wall! To mount the shelves, I just used finishing nails that fall down at an angle.
You can carry a surprising amount of weight with that technique and more than enough to support the weight of these shelves.
Step 5: Final Product!

What I like most about these shelves is their versatility once built. You can really play with the layout and design of the shelves on the wall and make whatever design you want with them. You can space them out or consolidate them all together
And you can make changes over time if you just want to give the room a new feel without buying or building new shelving. It's a very modular design so it's up to you how you work with them!
