Moira Deeming has been disendorsed as the Victorian Liberal Party candidate for the upcoming state election, marking a significant political fallout in Australia news. The state party executive voted on Friday afternoon to remove her from the number 1 position in the Western Metropolitan region, despite her dropping an eleventh-hour legal challenge against the party.
Disendorsement Decision and Political Impact
The Liberal Party issued a statement confirming the decision, thanking Deeming for her service and considering the matter resolved. While she remains in the opposition party room, she will lose her seat after the November election unless she runs as an independent. This puts her political career in jeopardy, as she faces an uncertain future without party backing.

Legal Challenge Withdrawn
Deeming announced on Wednesday she had withdrawn her Supreme Court challenge against party president Brian Loughnane. The challenge was initially sought to prevent the party from moving against her following an incident in May. The legal move was seen as a last-ditch effort to retain her candidacy.
Incident with Matthew Guy
The controversy stems from an incident where Deeming accused fellow Liberal MP Matthew Guy of grabbing her in a headlock. However, she later claimed she misunderstood the meaning of headlock. CCTV footage from a function in May showed Guy placing his hand on Deeming's upper back as they leaned in to talk. Police investigated and found no offence detected.
