Andy Burnham, the incoming Labour prime minister, has ignited a national debate with his milk-first approach to making tea, a stance he admits "will offend a lot of people." In a recent TikTok video, Burnham revealed his preference for adding milk before the teabag, claiming it "softens the teabag a bit and makes it stronger." This revelation has divided tea lovers across the UK, highlighting a long-standing cultural rift.
Burnham's Tea-Making Philosophy
Burnham's milk-first method challenges traditional British etiquette, where milk is typically added after brewing. He defended his choice, saying, "I don’t know why. I just have a feeling that it works." The debate extends beyond tea, as Burnham also weighed in on Christmas dinner controversies, including a firm opposition to Yorkshire pudding with turkey, which he vowed to "ban" if given power.
