The Gaza peace plan announced by Trump has sparked confusion over whether Hamas disarmament or Israeli withdrawal comes first, as Israel's official response remains pending. With conflicting statements from officials, the ceasefire's future hangs in the balance.
Trump's Breakthrough Claim vs. Israeli Skepticism
On Thursday night, Donald Trump declared a breakthrough in negotiations regarding Hamas disarmament and Israeli forces' withdrawal from Gaza. However, Israeli officials have voiced skepticism, with the national security minister calling the plan "unacceptable." An Israeli source told AFP that Israel will not withdraw from the Yellow Line until Hamas undergoes "genuine disarmament."

Trump, speaking at a Camp David cabinet meeting, said, "We do have an understanding with Israel. Israel is very happy about it. They helped us and they’ve been very good about it." Yet, no official confirmation from the Israeli government has emerged, and Prime Minister Netanyahu has remained silent.
Key Sticking Points in the Plan
The core issue is sequencing: Should Hamas disarm first, or should Israeli troops withdraw? Trump offered no clarity. Additionally, confusion surrounds who would receive Hamas's heavy weapons—Trump mentioned the "Board of Peace," while officials said Palestinian authorities.
| Aspect | Trump's Claim | Israeli Officials' Stance |
|---|---|---|
| Israel's Support | "Israel is very happy" | "Unacceptable" (Ben-Gvir); objections conveyed |
| Disarmament Sequence | No clarity | Complete disarmament as precondition |
| Weapons Recipient | Board of Peace | Palestinian authorities |
Why the Disarmament Order Matters
The sequence determines trust and security. Israel demands full demilitarization before any withdrawal, fearing Hamas would rearm. Palestinians argue withdrawal is necessary to enable disarmament. This deadlock has stalled the October ceasefire implementation.
- Hamas disarmament is a precondition for Israel, not a result.
- Israeli ambassador Danny Danon insists "cosmetic solutions" won't work.
- Trump's plan lacks specifics on verification and timeline.
- Without agreement, violence may resume.
International Reactions and Next Steps
The international community watches closely. The UN has urged both parties to return to negotiations. Meanwhile, humanitarian needs in Gaza remain critical. Experts suggest a phased approach could break the impasse, but trust is minimal.
As the world awaits Israel's formal response, the peace plan's viability is questioned. Trump's vague statements have not eased concerns. The coming days are crucial for the ceasefire's survival.
