John Stones Set for Inter Move After World Cup Heroics 2026

John Stones is set to join Inter Milan on a free transfer after impressing for England at the World Cup. The 32-year-old defender left Manchester City in June and has attracted interest from Italian clubs, with Inter now leading the race to sign him.

Stones’ World Cup Performance Boosts His Value

Stones made a significant impact for England during their run to the semi-finals. He started the opening match against Croatia, came off the bench in knockout wins against the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mexico, and started the quarter-final victory over Norway as well as the 2-1 semi-final loss to Argentina. His consistent displays have convinced Inter that he can bolster their backline.

Injury Comeback and Limited City Minutes

Last season at Manchester City, Stones made only 13 appearances before a December injury sidelined him for two months. Upon return, he featured just five more times under Pep Guardiola. Yet the World Cup proved he remains a top-level defender. “I still feel I have so much to give a club,” Stones said recently. “A new challenge will be exciting.”
