Donald Trump once again found himself awkwardly lingering in the frame during Spain's World Cup celebrations at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The US president, fresh off a round of booing from the crowd, handed off the trophy alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino and then remained stubbornly in the shot as the Spanish team celebrated their pinnacle achievement. This marks the second time Trump has done this—first with Chelsea in 2025 and now with Spain.
Trump's Unwanted Presence at Major Sporting Events
American sports fans have grown increasingly frustrated with Trump's involvement in major events. The New York Knicks lost their only NBA finals game this year with Trump in attendance at Madison Square Garden, where he also drew loud boos. Earlier in this World Cup, the US crashed out 4-1 against Belgium after Trump called Infantino to get striker Folarin Balogun's red card suspended.

Repeated History at the Same Stadium
Marc Cucurella, the Spanish defender, was on stage for both occasions—first lifting the 2025 Club World Cup with Chelsea and then again on Sunday when Trump remained in the shot. The repeated history brought an incongruous end to a night where Trump was mostly far from the center of attention.
