Spain's unbeaten run of 37 matches faces its ultimate test in the World Cup final, as the European powerhouse aims to cement their legacy. Their 2-0 victory against France extended this remarkable streak, equaling Italy's best stretch by a European team between 2018 and 2021. However, Spain did lose the 2025 Nations League final to Portugal on penalties, a nuance that separates their run from truly undefeated campaigns.
Comparing Unbeaten Streaks: Spain vs. Historic Giants
While Spain's run is impressive, it's important to compare it with other legendary streaks. Italy's 37-match unbeaten run included winning Euro 2020, and they were truly unbeaten in regulation and extra time. No South American team has ever matched this feat; Brazil went 36 matches unbeaten between 1993 and 1996, winning a World Cup, while Argentina equaled that from 2019 to 2022 before a stunning loss to Saudi Arabia.

Key Players Behind Spain's Dominance
Spain's depth is staggering. Fabián Ruiz has represented his country 49 times without a loss (excluding shootouts), yet he's not even in the top five for minutes played. The leading man is Marc Cucurella, followed by Unai Simón, Aymeric Laporte, Lamine Yamal, and Mikel Oyarzabal. Manager Luis de la Fuente has used 62 different players in 37 matches, showcasing incredible talent depth.
What This Means for the World Cup Final
Spain's history of unbeaten runs is unmatched: they are responsible for six of the 11 instances of a European nation going unbeaten for at least 25 games.
