A Pitbull concert has forced a historic Champions League qualifier in Lithuania to move venues, highlighting the growing clash between sports and entertainment scheduling. FK Kauno Zalgiris, Lithuania’s top football team, secured a spot in the Champions League second qualifying round after a 3-2 win over Kosovo’s Dritam, but they now face a logistical nightmare due to a pre-booked concert by the US rapper Pitbull at their home stadium.
How a Pitbull Concert Disrupted Champions League Football
The Darius and Girenas Stadium, a 15,000-seater venue, was already booked for a Pitbull concert on 31 July, just days after the scheduled second leg. This left Zalgiris scrambling for an alternative venue. The team attempted to swap the legs to play at home first, but Faroese champions KI have national holidays on 28-29 July, and another Faroese club, HB, is playing a Conference League match on 30 July, straining local policing resources.

The Impact on FK Kauno Zalgiris
Zalgiris will likely move to Jonava, a town 30km away, with a stadium holding just over 2,500 people—far less than their usual capacity. Head coach Zeljko Sopic expressed frustration, calling the situation “because of a concert by some dog or somebody.” The club chair Mantas Kalnietis noted that concerts are a major revenue source for the stadium and city, but the timing proved disastrous for the team’s European ambitions.
