Nottingham Forest in Talks with Celta Vigo for Javi Rueda 2026

Nottingham Forest are in talks with Celta Vigo over the €15m (£12.8m) signing of right-back Javi Rueda, a move that would likely be their final incoming of the January transfer window. The 24-year-old former Real Madrid academy player fits the profile sought by manager Oliver Glasner, who has been looking for a right wing-back to bolster his squad. This potential transfer highlights Forest's ambition to strengthen defensively while adding attacking width.

Javi Rueda: A Rising Star from Celta Vigo

Javi Rueda, a former Spain youth international, joined Celta Vigo three years ago from Real Madrid, where he developed through the youth ranks. Real Madrid will receive half of the transfer fee as part of the deal, reflecting a common sell-on clause. Rueda made his first-team breakthrough last season, featuring in 26 La Liga matches and 11 Europa League games, helping Celta reach the quarter-finals of the latter competition.

His performances have attracted interest from several clubs, but Nottingham Forest appear to be leading the race. Rueda's ability to contribute both defensively and offensively makes him an ideal candidate for Glasner's system, which relies on dynamic wing-backs. If the deal is completed, Rueda would provide competition and depth to Forest's right side.

Axel Disasi Joins Crystal Palace on Loan

In a separate move, Chelsea have agreed to loan Axel Disasi to Crystal Palace for the season. Disasi, who signed for Chelsea from Monaco, has previously been loaned to Aston Villa and West Ham. The defender expressed excitement about his new challenge, saying, “I know that it’s very tough to play against Palace at Selhurst Park – so I’m looking forward to being on the other side now.”

Disasi's arrival at Palace adds experience to their backline, which has struggled with consistency this season. His versatility allows him to play as a centre-back or right-back, giving Palace manager Oliver Glasner more options. This loan move is part of a broader reshuffle involving Chelsea, who have also agreed to sell Liam Delap to Forest for £50m.

Other Transfer Developments

Brentford have struck an agreement with West Ham to sign El Hadji Malick Diouf for £35m plus up to £5m in add-ons. The left-back has been keen to leave West Ham since their relegation, and this move represents a significant investment for Brentford. Meanwhile, Forest confirmed that wing-back Eric da Silva Moreira will spend the season on loan to Dutch side Excelsior to aid his development.

These transfers indicate a busy January window for several Premier League clubs, with teams looking to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season. Nottingham Forest's potential signing of Javi Rueda, coupled with the arrival of Liam Delap, signals their intent to push for a higher league position.

Comparison: Javi Rueda vs. Current Forest Right-Backs

Rueda's experience in a top European league makes him a valuable addition, especially given his youth and potential for growth. His defensive solidity and attacking contributions could significantly improve Forest's right flank.
