Once you get married and start a family, as a man, it is your responsibility to take care of your wife and your child. The goal is to provide them with the best possible by making all your wife’s reasonable wishes come true, treating her with kindness, and making her feel loved. In the child’s case, you have to be a responsible parent, work with your wife together to get through the challenges of upbringing, and create a baby who has the best possible personality, is smart, well-mannered, and feels loved.

Husbands sometimes do not prioritize their wives. In such a case they tend to prioritize their mothers instead. I am okay with it if you strike the right balance. But if you are not caring about one party and only care about the other one, then you are making a big mistake.

In today’s story Reddit user AndrewRichard11 shared that he recently became a father 5 weeks ago and to help his wife recover after the delivery, he called his mother over to help with the house chores so his wife could take complete care of the baby. However, OP’s mother would do less of the chores and would hold the baby more, trying to be around her all the time. So much so that when OP’s wife would ask for the baby, she wouldn’t give him to her. Not even when the baby had been fed. This would make the wife angry, and such an event would occur quite a lot. OP would always side with his mother and would tell his wife to stop “acting out” and be patient. This angered the wife even further.

Not knowing if his opinion about his wife was right or not, OP decided to knock on the doors of the infamous subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” and rested his fate in his hands.

Scroll down below to read how it all went down.

1. For that we will have to investigate if she really had been acting out or reasonable.

2. Because his wife was still recovering after giving birth, OP decided to call his mother over frequently to help with house chores and also take care of the baby.

3. The wife does not like SIL holding her baby.

4. The mom doesn’t give the baby back to the wife once she holds it…even after insisting, I assume.

5. OP’s wife raises her voice after asking for the baby multiple times and not getting it…This is kind of odd on the mom’s part.

6. I think I can sense a bias from OP towards his mom.

7. This argument is not going anywhere and not calming down either.

8. The wife is not being allowed to hold her son or feed it, of course, the argument was going to escalate.

9. The wife made it very clear to OP that the mother is being nosy when it comes to the baby, and that she should maintain her distance.

10. You can tell OP is confused. And that is why he asked the AITA community members if his opinion was right or not.

YTA. OP, you are the biggest AH here. Can you not see that your wife literally requests multiple times to her SIL to get her son back but she still doesn’t give him to her? This is out of order. Does the SIL think the baby is better off in her own hands? I am sorry woman but you are not the kid’s mother. If the real mother demands her baby, she should get the baby instantly. And the fact that the SIL wouldn’t give the baby for feeding as well, this is so st*pid. OP needs to sort his priorities out and understand what is actually happening.

Here’s what the AITA community members had to say and why:

11. The mom was called to help with house chores. Holding the baby is not making her helpful at all.

12. This was beyond me.

13. Be careful with the route you are taking here, OP. It may cost you a lot.

14. As simple as that.

15. She is not a child, she knows exactly what she is doing or saying. As a matter of fact, I am well sure that OP’s mother also knows what she is doing is wrong.

16. OP better realize his mistake soon.

17. Man up and think of your wife and child first, OP.
