Small Boat Crossings: Nearly All Women Raped, Says UK Home Secretary 2026

Small boat crossings from northern France to the UK have become a humanitarian crisis, with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood revealing that nearly all women making the journey have been raped. In a candid interview on The Rest Is Politics podcast, Mahmood described the brutal reality faced by asylum seekers and the criminal gangs controlling the border.

The Shocking Reality of Small Boat Crossings

Mahmood's statement highlights the extreme violence endured by migrants, particularly women, who attempt to reach the UK via small boats. She emphasized that criminal gangs, who also operate as people traffickers, decide who boards these dangerous vessels. "You can almost guarantee that every woman that's in the north of France has probably been raped along the journey," she said. Men are not exempt, facing abuse and threats as well.

Border Control Failures and Criminal Gangs

The Home Secretary admitted that the UK is not in control of its borders, with traffickers determining the flow of asylum seekers. This lack of control not only endangers lives but also undermines the asylum system. Mahmood's comments underscore the need for a comprehensive strategy to dismantle these criminal networks and protect vulnerable individuals.
