Bottle Opener with Magnetic Receiver, having a bottle opener on your kitchen wall is not enough, because every time you open a bottle you have to quickly catch the bottle cap or lift it off the floor.
I decided to do something a little better.
Step 1: Selecting the wood

I have several pieces of wood in the workshop and I selected this piece of oak and a couple of strips of western red cedar.
Step 2: Plane and Level

To add a little detail, I decided to rip the piece of oak lengthwise and insert the two strips of western red cedar.
It was glued with fastened wood glue and left to dry overnight.
Once the glue was dry, I ran the finished piece through my thickener to get to some nice flat surfaces and then across the square join of the edges.
Step 3: Cut the pieces

With the piece now level and square, I cut it to size for the individual openers, I was able to get five parts of the length of oak I had. These were each 270mm long.
I cut the corners of each piece to give it a little interest and it's not quite as square.
I ran a 45° bevel around the top and bottom and went a little deeper at the top.
I also cut a couple of screw slots in the back to allow it to be hung on the wall.
Step 4: The finish

Because the grain of the wood I had used was so beautiful, I decided I wanted to enhance it rather than hide it.
This was done with three coats of Danish oil, each coat was left to dry for about 3 to 4 hours and then the excess oil was removed, and between each coat a very light sanding was also done with 240 grit sandpaper.
The final coat was allowed to dry completely overnight.
Step 5: Finish applied

To give the openers a bit of a protective finish, I decided to add a few coats of polyurethane varnish. After all, they're probably going to spill beer on them.
I had never applied polyurethane varnish over a Danish oil finish, so I decided to try it on a piece of plywood that I also oiled and the back of one of the openers.
I'm happy to report that the varnish took well, it seems to have pretty good adhesion with no bubbles or other issues.
Step 6: Polyurethane Varnish

The varnish was applied using a 30 mm wide brush.
It has a satin finish that looks beautiful when it dries.
I applied four coats of varnish, leaving 4 to 5 hours between each coat, and between each coat I removed any dust particles and bubbles that appeared in the finish with 1200 grit sandpaper.
Step 7: Assemble the magnet and opener

Once the final coat of varnish had completely dried (overnight), I drilled a hole in the back of the wood to take the rare earth magnet.
The magnet is 40 x 20 x 5 mm, neodymium, type N42. I took great care at this stage to ensure I didn't burst through the front of the piece leaving approximately 5mm of wood.
The magnet is held in place with a generous dollop of hot glue.
Then I turned each piece over and screwed the bottle opener together with stainless steel cap screws.
As you can see in the video, the magnet grabs the lids very easily. It's an incredibly strong magnet and I think it will probably hold 20-30 bottle caps.
