A Great Idea for a Tiny House on a Bus, we took a 2001 Ford E450 Bluebird bus and turned it into a tiny home so we could travel around the country and also take our dogs with us.
Step 1: Get your design

This is a big problem. The first thing you need to do is add your layout to see what type of space you are working with.
We started with the bed frame, and from there, we used masking tape to see what kind of space we had from there.
Using masking tape is a great way to see how big everything will be before you build it.
Step 2: Back

Start building from back to front. You don't want to have to carry your materials mostly in the front, so start in the back.
We start with the bed frame, the electrical area and the water tank.
As you can see in this image, our electrical area is on the left and the water tank is on the right.
Step 3: Adding Walls!

Start adding walls. The most important thing to consider here is what material and thickness to use.
We have seen many people with 2x2 walls, but we opted for more rigidity and strength in our walls and decided to go with a standard 2x4.
The total savings of 2″ on one side and 4″ on the other by using 2x2 instead of 2x4 was almost no justification compared to the extra strength we get from regular stud walls.
Step 4: Finishing the walls

You will need to select a finish for your walls.
We select pine siding.
It was cheap and thin at the local store and it looks beautiful.
We added our normal wiring as we built the walls and returned it to the area under the bed that we designated for electrical.
Then moving towards the front of the bus, we added a composting toilet.
Uses a 5-gallon bucket and sawdust, so no black water tank needed.
Step 5: Building a storage area

We added a small side table on the side where our couch was going to go so we would have a place to put drinks and also add a bit of storage area
Step 6: The kitchen

On the other side of the bus, we started building our kitchen.
The sink is designed (we actually found it in a pile of garbage in the forest).
We assemble under the sink and then build the cabinet ourselves.
We couldn't find a pre-made cabinet configuration in the size we wanted, so this was the easiest option.
Step 7: Make a sofa… Or a bed… Or both

We made this simple sofa bed contraption after seeing others online.
You can see how it works by watching the video.
Step 8: Electricity

This shows our electricity configuration.
We have a Renogy 400w solar system that powers a 3000/6000w inverter and (2) 200AH AGM batteries.
Everyone runs into a transfer switch that allows us to get off a generator or shore power if we can't use the batteries.
Step 9: Adding the bed

We waited until the end to add the mattress, so we didn't break it.
This is an 8″ foam mattress from Amazon.
They're pretty inexpensive, come in a small but heavy box, and are super easy to put on the bus compared to a regular mattress.
Then open the bag and let it expand!
Step 10: Add the Finishing Touches!

The painting was probably the worst part for us because there were a lot of little things to paint here and there, but it has to be done!
Everything inside our bus is made of hardwood plywood or hardwood.
There is no particle board throughout the bus. Everything is solid. We just returned from taking it through the mountains of Colorado and didn't have to hook up to power or water once on our week-long trip.
