Build this Cool Wooden Seesaw for the Little Ones at Home, this project was born from a need for fun for children, and I'm excited to publish the plans today so everyone can do it too! But first, a word of warning: Sadly, seesaws have been removed from most playgrounds for safety reasons, unfortunately. Personally, I feel that the most dangerous thing is for my son to sit inside and watch television for hours.
Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Work on a clean, level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always pre-drill holes before attaching with screws.
Use glue with finishing nails for a stronger hold.
Wipe excess glue off of bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!

Materials:
- 2 Boards – 2x4 at 8 feet long
- 2 Boards – 2x6 @ 8 feet long
- 10″ 5/8″ Bolts with nut and four washers
- 2 Boards – 1x8 @ 3 feet long
- 24″ 1″ peg or closet rod
- 3 inch screws

Step 1: Dimensions

Cut List:
- 2 Boards – 2×4 @ 96″
- 2 Boards – 2×6 @ 24″ (studs)
- 2 Boards – 2×6 @ 36″ (long base)
- 2 Boards – 2x6 @ 24″ (short base – both ends cut 30 degrees from square ends NOT parallel to each other)
- 2 Boards – 2×6 @ 12″
FROM EACH 2x6 cut one each of the 24″, 36″, 24″ and 12″ to preserve the boards

Tools:
- Drill
- Drill Bit Set
- Tape measure
- Hammer
- Metal ruler
- Protective glasses
- Circular Saw
- Sander

Step 2:
Attach the long base brackets to the studs with lots of screws and glue.

Step 3:
Then add the side supports again with lots of screws and glue.

Step 4:
Build the seat portion by placing the handle brackets between 8-foot-long 2x4s, attaching them with glue and plenty of screws. Drill a 5/8″ hole in the center of 2x4 for the pivot bolt.

Step 5:

I used 1x8 recycled boards for the seats, covered with a foam chair pad cut in half and outdoor fabric.
I drilled three holes in the uprights with a 5/8″ drill bit so the rocker can be adjustable.
The hardest part of this rocker arm was lining up the bolt holes.
For the handles, we had a closet rod, so we cut it to size, drilled a hole, and inserted the rod.
Then we glued it and screwed it into place.
Preparation instructions:
Fill all holes with wood filler and let dry. Apply additional coats ofwood filler as needed.
When the wood filler is completely dry, sand the project in the direction of the wood grain with 120 grit sandpaper. Vacuum sand project to remove sanding residue.
Remove all sanding residue on work surfaces as well.
Clean the project with a damp cloth. It is always recommended to apply a test coat to a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color consistency and adhesion.
Use primer or wood conditioner as needed.
