Building vinyl frames to decorate your wall can be a great DIY job that you can do to implement in your home.
The saddest thing about the advent of digital music might be the loss of album art.
At 12″ X 12″, a vinyl album sleeve is the right size and proportion to be a piece of art worthy of hanging in a gallery.
I made these vinyl record charts to display my favorite cover art while maintaining quick access through a slot at the top.
Step 1: Design

The frame needed to have a cavity with beveled corners at the top to allow the puck to easily slide in and out, and it needed a trim for the front of the frame to keep it in place.
I made the interior space 12 7/16″ wide to give the cover room to easily move in and out, and I made the frame just barely cover the edges of the cover at 12 1/8″ wide in each dimension.
It is important to hide as little of the sleeve as possible, as most album covers go all the way to the edges.
Although vinyl covers maintain a 12″ X 12″ perimeter within a few millimeters of tolerance, they vary in thickness.
Because of this, I folded the middle piece to widen the gap.
I left the front of the frame open so you can quickly slide the record by hand and throw it onto the turntable.
Step 2: Templates and assembly

Templates are attached in this step for easy manufacturing.
I laser cut these pieces because it was the quickest way to do it.
The PDF should print at 36″ X 36″ as shown in the layout, but you can also group smaller pages for the same effect.
That said, this design is so simple that it might be easier to just go with the dimensions of the diagram in the previous step and lay it out with a pencil and a straight edge.
I cut the trimmed pieces with mitered corners to save wood, but it might be easier to just cut everything into whole pieces as shown on the templates, since the separate pieces are difficult to line up perfectly.
The assembly process is super simple, just glue, nail and clamp until the glue dries.
I recommend finishing the wood before assembly, as it would be difficult to get the finish into the cavity.
When I was finished, I added some keyhole hangers to the back of the frame, which I found to be the safest way to hang the frames on the wall.
Using the picture cable would be difficult since I will probably be taking these discs out frequently to play them.
Step 3: Ready and stylish
Building vinyl frames are an excellent idea if you want to decorate your home in an incredible way.

I'm very happy with the way they turned out. Records of different thicknesses slide in and out easily, and it's nice to have a rotating gallery of covers in my living room. Greetings!
