Fuel Tax Credits Under Scrutiny
The Labor conference will vote on an amendment by the Labor Environment Action Network (LEAN) to wind back fuel tax credits. These credits refund miners, farmers, and other industries the 52.6c per litre excise on diesel and petrol. The move aims to “remove disincentives for orderly decarbonisation.”
| Policy Area | Current Status | Proposed Change |
|---|---|---|
| Gas Export Tax | Resisted by PM | Increase for revenue |
| Fuel Tax Credits | Full refund for miners/farmers | Wind back to cap scheme |
| Decarbonisation | Voluntary targets | Mandatory reductions |
