Enzo Fernández showed real quality for Argentina during a thrilling win over England, but his Chelsea future is now up in the air amid growing speculation. The midfielder delivered a standout performance in the semi-final, scoring a stunning equalizer and orchestrating play from deep. However, his inconsistent form at club level and reported interest from Spain have cast doubt on his long-term role at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Fernández Dominates Against England
Fernández was an unstoppable mix of style and spite during Argentina’s win over England. His first contribution was to plough into Elliot Anderson, but he escaped without a booking. As Argentina came from 1-0 down, Fernández pulled the strings next to Alexis Mac Allister and proved his big-game mentality by scoring a bending shot from 25 yards in the 85th minute.

The statistics show Fernández won only three of his nine ground duels, but he had more touches than anyone else (104) and a 98% pass completion rate. He shot four times from long range, finally catching Jordan Pickford out. England never reacted to the danger, giving Fernández space to dictate the second half.
Chelsea Future Hangs in the Balance
Despite his heroics for Argentina, Fernández’s Chelsea future is uncertain. The midfielder has struggled with defensive transitions in the Premier League, often leaving structural gaps. Chelsea may consider selling him this summer to balance the books, especially with interest from Spanish clubs. His Instagram post laughing with Lionel Messi and using Wonderwall as a soundtrack has fueled rumors of a move to La Liga.
