The day Harrogate burst at the seams as Pakistan and India swung into town remains one of cricket's most unforgettable moments. On 15 July 1986, an estimated 15,000 spectators descended on the genteel English town for a 40-over fundraiser featuring legends like Kapil Dev and Imran Khan.
The Unlikely Match That Captured a Generation
This wasn't just any cricket match—it was a historic clash between India and Pakistan on British soil, organized as a charity event for Help the Aged. The Pakistan ambassador Ali Arshad assembled a star-studded team, flying in five players specially, while India was already touring England. The lineup included Wasim Akram, Abdul Qadir, Ramiz Raja, Sunil Gavaskar, and Mohammad Azharuddin.
