Transfer Roundup: Digne Returns to PSG, Fulham Sign Charles 2026

The latest transfer news sees Lucas Digne return to Paris Saint-Germain from Aston Villa, while Fulham agree a £30m deal for Shea Charles. These moves highlight the ongoing reshuffling in European football as clubs prepare for the new season.

Lucas Digne Completes PSG Return

France defender Lucas Digne has signed a three-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain, returning to the club where he spent three seasons earlier in his career. The 33-year-old full-back had two years remaining on his Aston Villa contract, but PSG triggered a release clause reported to be between £6m and £7m.

Digne made 182 appearances for Villa, scoring four goals and providing 24 assists since joining from Everton in January 2022. He was a key figure in Unai Emery's side that won the Europa League last season. His experience and versatility will bolster PSG's defensive options.

Impact on PSG and Villa

For PSG, Digne's return adds depth and leadership to their backline. For Aston Villa, his departure frees up wages and provides funds for reinvestment. Villa confirmed the exit on their website, praising Digne as a "consummate professional" highly regarded by teammates and staff.

Fulham Secure Shea Charles

Fulham have agreed a £30m deal with Southampton for Northern Ireland international Shea Charles. The 22-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a five-year contract at Craven Cottage pending a medical and legal formalities. The fee includes an initial £26m plus £4m in performance-related add-ons.

Charles was a breakout star in the Championship last season, playing over 2,000 minutes as Southampton reached the playoffs. His arrival at Fulham fills the void left by Sasa Lukic's sale to Ipswich. He joins young forwards Jonah Kusi-Asare and Gonzalo García, plus attacking midfielder César Palacios, in a summer overhaul aimed at reducing the squad's average age.

Why Charles is a Key Signing

Charles is expected to act as the linchpin of Fulham's midfield, offering energy and ball progression. His performances in the Championship attracted interest from Leeds, but the size of the fee deterred other suitors. This signing demonstrates Fulham's ambition to build a competitive squad for the Premier League.
