England rugby's 2024 season analysis reveals a team with genuine world-beaters like Manny Feyi-Waboso but plagued by discipline issues, as highlighted by fly-half Fin Smith's honest assessment. The recent 31-24 win over Argentina showcased England's bite but also the bright yellow elephant in the room: 14 yellow cards in 10 games this year.
Fin Smith's Honest Assessment of England Rugby
Fly-half Fin Smith gave England a modest seven out of 10 for their performance against Argentina, noting the team was millimeters away from blowing a 19-3 halftime lead. He emphasized that England fans deserve more than five defeats in eight Tests this calendar year.

Smith's clarity is refreshing in a sport where deflection is common. He stated, "I think it comes with being an England rugby player. The RFU is a massive organization and Twickenham is full every week. People just want to see us win."
Discipline Issues: The Elephant in the Room
England's discipline problem is stark. With 14 yellow cards in 10 matches this year, the team has developed a habit that head coach Steve Borthwick struggled to address. Borthwick criticized the "negativity committee" of traveling media, but Smith was more upfront about the issue.
This disciplinary record is unsustainable for a team aiming to be a powerhouse in international rugby. Each yellow card risks conceding points and momentum, as seen in the Argentina match where England nearly lost a 16-point lead.
