Breville BOV900BSS Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro Overview
The Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro is a premium countertop oven powered by the brand’s Element iQ system, which uses multiple heating elements and sensors to distribute heat precisely across the cooking chamber. This technology helps eliminate hot spots and improves consistency across different cooking modes.

If you're comparing similar appliances, I recommend exploring my guide to the best air fryers to see how it stacks up against other popular models.
Design and Build Quality
The first thing I noticed about the Breville BOV900BSS is its premium build. The brushed stainless steel housing feels durable and looks sleek on the counter. Unlike many compact air fryers that feel plasticky, this oven has the weight and solid construction of a professional appliance.
The control interface is simple but powerful. A bright LCD display shows cooking modes, temperatures, and suggested rack positions, while two control knobs let you adjust time and temperature quickly.
Included Accessories
- Air fry basket
- Two oven racks
- 9×13 broil rack
- Enamel roasting pan
- 13-inch pizza pan
These accessories make it possible to cook almost any recipe without buying extra tools.

13 Cooking Functions That Replace Multiple Appliances
One reason this model stands out is the number of cooking modes it offers. The oven includes 13 preset cooking programs, allowing you to cook nearly anything without guesswork.
Cooking Modes
- Air Fry
- Bake
- Roast
- Broil
- Toast
- Bagel
- Pizza
- Proof
- Reheat
- Cookies
- Warm
- Slow Cook
- Dehydrate
This versatility makes it more comparable to countertop ovens like the Cuisinart Toaster Oven 1800W 8-in-1 rather than basic air fryers.
If you want a dedicated air fryer alternative, you may also like the Cosori 9-in-1 TurboBlaze 6-Qt or the Ninja 4-in-1 Pro 5-Qt.
Cooking Performance and Real-World Results
In real kitchen use, the Breville BOV900BSS performs exceptionally well. Its super convection fan circulates hot air quickly throughout the oven, helping food cook faster and more evenly.
This feature can reduce cooking time by up to 30% compared to traditional ovens while still delivering crispy textures.
Air Frying
Air frying results are good, though not always as fast as dedicated basket-style air fryers. Foods like fries, wings, and vegetables come out crispy, but cooking may take slightly longer.
Baking and Roasting
This is where the oven really shines. Cakes, casseroles, and roasted meats cook evenly thanks to precise temperature control and multiple heating elements.
In fact, many long-term users report replacing their full-size ovens entirely because this countertop oven handles most daily cooking tasks.

Capacity and Kitchen Space
The oven’s interior capacity is one of its biggest strengths. It can easily handle:
- A 13-inch pizza
- A full 9×13 casserole
- Up to nine slices of toast
- A 14-pound turkey
This makes it ideal for families or anyone who cooks full meals rather than just snacks.
However, the tradeoff is size. It’s larger than typical air fryers and requires significant counter space. If you need something slimmer, consider the Bella 4-Qt Slim Fits Anywhere.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning the Breville oven is relatively straightforward thanks to its nonstick interior and removable crumb tray.
However, the air fry basket can be harder to clean because food particles stick to the mesh surface. Some users also report occasional smoke when cooking greasy foods if drippings reach the heating elements.
Still, compared with most countertop ovens, maintenance is manageable with regular cleaning.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Extremely versatile with 13 cooking modes
- Large interior capacity
- Precise temperature control
- Excellent baking and roasting performance
- Premium stainless-steel construction
- Includes multiple useful accessories
Cons
- High price compared to standard air fryers
- Large footprint on the counter
- Air frying slightly slower than basket models
- Learning curve for all cooking functions
If you prefer simpler countertop ovens, the Black+Decker Crisp N Bake Countertop Oven may be a better entry-level option.

Is the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro Worth It?
Our Breville Smart Oven BOV800XL finally broke after 10 years of almost daily use, so it was time to replace it.
Another Breville, no question - but which one? The newer Breville model (BOV900BSSUSC, the one in this review) seemed like the obvious choice, but I was afraid it wouldn't fit on the counter or it would get too hot under the cabinets. Short answer: It fits.
Quieter than the old one. The older 800XL convection fan was loud and almost rattled. The new one has 2 fans: one to cool the electronics and one for convection. Even with both fans, cooking with normal convection is pretty quiet. Airfry turns the convection fan up to 11 and makes a serious whoosh. I don't use airfry much (regular convection works just as well for most things we cook), so it's not a big deal.
In Summary
If you’re looking for a powerful, multi-purpose countertop oven that can replace several appliances, the Breville BOV900BSS is absolutely worth considering.
It combines air frying, baking, roasting, dehydrating, and slow cooking into one well-engineered device. While it’s not the cheapest air fryer on the market, the performance, build quality, and versatility justify the price for serious home cooks.
