How to Make a Book Header, I always wanted the header. I love books. That's why I came up with this great idea.
Reply? Headboard made of books.
Step 1: Materials

- A variety of book covers, carefully cut from the pages with a knife or something similar.
- Strong glue.
- Polyurethane spray for finishing.
- Pens or pencils.
- A large sheet of smooth plywood 1/4 inch thick and as wide as your bed. Mine was 50 inches wide and about 30 inches tall.
Step 2: Start the first layer

I chose to do purples and blues for the outer layer. My books overlapped the edges of the plywood by about five to six inches in most places so they fit nice and snug around the edges.
As you can see in the pictures, I messed with them until I liked where they were, and then used a pencil to follow where their edges were.
This way, once I started gluing, I could put them back where they needed to be.
To glue, you simply held up a book, applied a swirl of glue to the wood inside the lines, and then placed the book back where it needed to be.
Be sure to apply pressure for 30 seconds or a minute afterward just to make sure it's set properly. You don't want them to move on you.
I started with a corner and worked my way up.
Once you have finished the exterior, you will need to weight the books and leave them for the recommended drying time.
Step 3: Halfway through the first layer

Take two of the biggest, ugliest books (or the ones that don't fit your color scheme as much as you'd hoped) and glue them in the middle of the outer layer. Try to make sure that the amount of space around it is fairly equal.
This will give your top layers something to adhere to and make sure they are nice and level.
When gluing middle books, it is best to place the glue on the inside of the covers rather than on the wood. Better coverage and no glue where you don't need it.
This is also a good time to check the outer layer and make sure all the books are secure and that the spines are not facing up.
If they are, add more glue and weight! You can see I had a couple of problem books, but I got them into shape.
Step 4: Decide on the location of your top layers

The goal here is to add a little depth and cover all the gaps in the lower layers. I chose my prettiest covers for this, as well as the brightest ones.
Now, start gluing the bottom layers and work your way up.
The more overlap, the better. Let them dry between coats. (I made the big green, brown and pink as the bottom layer, then the left yellow and blue/brown as the next layer, then the big yellow and finally the small green.)
Once you're done, flip everything over and add a ton of weight.
Let it sit overnight. Now you're ready to seal it!
Step 5: Seal the header

This will make it easier to clean, less likely to fade, and waterproof for good measure.
I gave it a few good coats of polyurethane with proper ventilation and safety measures, of course. Remember to follow the instructions.
You can see that it has a little shine now!
Let this dry overnight as well.
Step 6: Hang it!

You could screw it into a wall, but my walls are pretty crumbly.
These things are pretty clever. I have used them for all the photos in the living room without problems.
I will keep everyone informed if it falls or not.
It looks VERY robust at this point. The headboard is about 6 to 7 pounds I'd say, so I think we'll be fine.
