Seville Police Hunt Suspect After Assault Rifle Found in Trash 2026

Seville police are hunting for the owner of an assault rifle and a possible grenade launcher discovered in a black trash bag in a residential neighborhood. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, October 14, has sparked rumors of a shooting that authorities have since denied.

According to local reports, a neighbor in the Tiro de Línea area found the weapons sticking out of a garbage bag in the middle of the street. The photo quickly spread on social media, prompting a police investigation that remains open.

What Happened in Seville?

The person who disposed of the weapon allegedly threw it from a moving car that was driving the wrong way, having entered the area from Parque Celestino Mutis. The incident reportedly occurred around 19:00, though other sources place the police operation around 20:00 and the discovery on Avenida de los Teatinos.

It is not yet known whether the occupant of the vehicle has been identified or arrested. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not released further details about the suspect or the circumstances.

What Do We Know About the Weapon?

Police forensic teams and Tedax, the specialists in explosive deactivation, are analyzing the material, especially the tubular device that could be a grenade launcher. The assault rifle is also being examined to determine its origin and whether it has been used in any crimes.

The discovery has raised concerns about public safety in the neighborhood, as such weapons are not typically found in residential areas. Authorities have not confirmed whether the weapons were functional or if they were replicas.

Why This Matters

The presence of military-grade weapons in a civilian area is alarming and highlights potential gaps in security. It also underscores the importance of community vigilance, as the neighbor who found the bag immediately alerted authorities.

Rumors of a shooting spread quickly on social media, but police have denied any such incident. This case serves as a reminder of how misinformation can spread during ongoing investigations.
