The Castle stage play adaptation of the iconic 1997 Australian comedy film has been officially announced, marking a new chapter for the beloved Kerrigan family. The show, written and co-produced by the original Working Dog team – Rob Sitch, Tom Gleisner, Santo Cilauro, and Jane Kennedy – will premiere in Melbourne at Her Majesty’s Theatre in March 2027, celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary.
What Is the Castle Stage Play About?
The stage play follows the same heartwarming story as the film: the Kerrigan family’s fight to save their home from demolition to make way for an airport expansion. But the creators promise it won’t be “just a retelling” – they’ve added 25 years of funny updates to reflect modern Australia while preserving the original’s charm and humour.
