Silent Hill Townfall Brings Horror to Scotland: What to Expect 2026

Silent Hill Townfall is the upcoming horror game that reimagines the iconic series with a chilling Scottish setting. In this preview, we explore how the game shifts from the Pacific Northwest to a remote island off Scotland's coast, promising fresh terrors for players.

Silent Hill Townfall: A New Setting in Scotland

The game introduces Simon Ordell, a man who washes ashore in the village of St Amelia, inspired by real Scottish towns like St Monans. The year is 1996, and the eerie sea fog sets the tone for a psychological horror experience unlike any before. Producer Motoi Okamoto explains that the team wanted to refresh the series by interpreting Silent Hill as a phenomenon, not just a place.

Why Scotland?

Glasgow-based studio Screen Burn, known for Stories Untold and Observation, brings a distinctly British gloom to the franchise. The team extensively photographed seafront towns to capture authentic details, from lobster cages to British Telecom phone boxes. This shift addresses player fatigue with repetitive locations and gameplay.

Gameplay and Visuals: A Fresh Horror Experience

During a two-hour preview at Konami in Tokyo, we played an almost finished version. The visual detail is incredible—grey stone walls worn by sea spray, abandoned homes with estate agent signs, and a palpable sense of uncanny emptiness. The gameplay stays true to Silent Hill's psychological roots while introducing new mechanics tied to Simon's amnesia and an IV cannula in his hand.

Silent Hill Townfall is not just a location change; it's a philosophical shift.
