#3: Required tools

Tools necessary to compete the project:
- Hand saw
- Drill
- Tape measure
- Pen
- 50mm saw
- 36mm hole saw
#4: Measuring your wall

Before you start measuring the size of your stand and wall, you must first determine how long your grow trays will last.
- First take the measuring tape and determine the length of your growing trays. For best performance, they should be no shorter than 1 m and no longer than 2 m.
- Write T along with the length you decided on for the growing trays on a piece of paper. E.g. T 2m
- Now that you know how long your grow trays will last, you can decide the width of the hitch bracket.
- Note that the trays should overlap the stand, so you don't want it to be too long or too short.
- Between 10cm and 40cm per side (depending on the length of the trays) should work well.
- Mark A on the sheet of paper you used earlier and write the length you decided on next to it. E.g. At 1.70m
Wall width:
- Now take the tape measure and measure the width of the wall where the wall garden is going to be.
- Please note that PVC pipes slip into elbows that you will use later, so keep this in mind when measuring.
- Make the fit as comfortable as possible without damaging the wall as this will help with overall stability. Mark this length as C on your piece of paper. Ex. C 25cm
Wall height:
- There are a few things to consider when deciding the height of your garden wall.
- Since the reservoir will be below your garden, it should be at least the heighta of the reservoirs plus an additional 20 cm of soil.
- The height of the frame cannot be reduced, as there is a sufficient amount of growing space needed for each growing tray.
- First take your tape measure and determine the height of your water tank with the lid on.
- Now take the tape measure and determine the height of your wall from top to bottom.
- Now take the height of your reservoir (reservoir + 20 cm) and subtract it from the height of your wall. As before, write this length as B on your piece of paper. E.g. B 1.8m
- Measure the width of the PVC tray/grow channel for the sliding arms.
- Measure the width of your growing trays with a tape measure. Write that length with D next to it. E.g. D 15cm
#5: It's time to cut the PVC pipes and gutters:

In the previous step, you made all the measurements for the grow trays and pieces of PVC pipe you will need in this step.
For this step, you will need a handsaw, a pen, and a tape measure.
Take the sheet of paper you used in the previous step and reduce the amounts indicated below for each letter with your hand saw.
- 2 X A's
- 2 X B's
- 4 X C's
- 6 X D's
- 3 X T’s (Growing Trays)
#6: Build the Sliding Grow Tray Arms

- 50mm PVC joints do not allow PVC pipes to slide through the joint.
- This means that you have to sand the inside diameter so that the PVC pipe slides freely inside it without being too loose.
- This is the most time-consuming aspect of the build and requires some precision for the arms to function properly.
This can be achieved in 2 ways:
- With an electronic drill, built-in sanding paper, full 50mm saw and adhesive tape.
- As illustrated in the image above. Be careful of excessive or uneven sanding when using this method.
- I found that it is best to twist and turn the T-joint regularly.
- Manually with a little old-fashioned elbow grease. Take the sanding paper and roll it as close to 50mm as possible. Sand the inside until it fits the 50mm pipe.
- For this part you will need some PVC solder/glue
- Now that you have properly sanded the T joints, it is time to assemble them. Take a length D pipe and assemble it with each of the T joints you just made, as illustrated in the image above.
- Make sure they are lined up straight and the parts and pieces are glued together correctly.
#7: Building the Framework

For this step you will need some PVC glue.
- Slide 3 of the adjustable tray arms you just made onto each of the B pieces.
- Using PVC welding, assemble your clip frame as shown in the image above
- Be sure to use enough glue at the joints.
- Allow each joint to harden for approximately 5-15min (depending on glue used) before continuing construction.
- Also make sure your frame is as straight as possible. Skewed connections at the top of the frame can have a negative effect later. Building each side first on a level platform before assembling the frame works well to keep it level.
#8: Adjusting Grow Tray Levels

- It's time to hang your frame on the wall.
- Check that everything fits well and that the frame is stable before continuing with construction.
- Using a tape measure, determine how high each of your levels should be.
- Rotate the arms of the tray to the correct level for each, making sure everyone is at the same level as their opposite partner.
- For the system drainage to work correctly, each of the trays must be tilted a little moreone side.
- To achieve this, simply slide one side of each tray and slide the arms down 1cm, starting at the top left corner so the water flows to the left.
- Do exactly the same with the sliding arms of the middle and lower tray so that the water flow ends in your reservoir.
Note: The flow can be adjusted at any time to meet your specific needs.
#9: Building the Culture Trays

For this step you will need some PVC glue.
- Insert a cap on all sides of the channel. Make sure they are inserted correctly and flash all the way to the end of each grow tray.
- Line the inside of each end of the gutter with glue for additional protection against sneaky leaks.
#10: Install Drain Ports on Grow Trays

For this step, you will need an electronic drill and a 36mm hole saw.
- Punch a 36mm set at the end of each grow tray.
- Screw the 36mm PVC threaded adapter into the assembly. Then, at the bottom of the tray, screw the 50mm threaded adapter along with the straight PVC adapter as shown in the picture.
- Cut a round piece of steel mesh and insert it into the threaded adapter on the grow tray.
#11: Install the Grow Trays

For this step you will need a handsaw and a tape measure.
- Place each completed tray on its designated level.
- Now take the measuring tape and measure the distance between the bottom of each trays drainage point to the level of the tray below, apart from the lowest tray.
- Take the hand saw and cut the required lengths of PVC pipe to complete your drain ports to the bottom level of the pan.
Note:
The drain pipes can be completely inserted into the growing medium of the next tray.
This will help prevent water loss through splashing and evaporation, as well as reduce algae growth on top of your media where it remains moist.
#12: Install the reservoir

For this step, you will need a handsaw, drill, 50mm hole saw, 36mm hole saw, and tape measure.
- Place your water reservoir under your garden wall on a level surface and mark the location where the drain pipe and irrigation lines will enter your reservoir.
- Take the drill and drill a 50mm joint into place for your drainage and a 36mm hole for your irrigation line.
- Now take the tape measure and measure approximately the distance your last drain pipe should be from the lowest pan to your water tank.
- It can be as long as you want, as long as it does not protrude from the reservoir.
- Place your reservoir in place and insert the last drain tube so it enters the reservoir.
#13: Install the irrigation line:

- Insert the end of your irrigation line through the assembly into the lid of your reservoir and connect it to the water pump.
- Take your irrigation line to the top right corner of your wall garden.
- When you run, your water will flow in a zigzag pattern, irrigating at one end and draining at the opposite end.
- Be sure not to bend the tubing too much as it may break and influence your flow.
#14: Finishing steps

- Fill the trays with culture medium.
- I find that a mix of perlite and LECA works well, but any hairless growing medium can be used.
- Fill the hydroponic reservoir with a nutrient solution.
- The hydroponic medium and nutrients can be purchased on Amazon. We recommend the following:
- Leca Clay Pellets
- General Hydroponics
#15: Final verifications

Before starting your hydroponic wall garden, please do the following checks first.
- Check that everything is stable.
- Check that your power supply is away from moisture.
- Now turn on your system and check that the water is flowing evenly through all the trays without any restrictions.
- Also check for possible leak points.
If everything is ready, you are ready to start using your new clip in the hydroponic wall garden!
#16: System in flight

Here is a photo of the system in the early stages.
You can see that the cucumber, melon and watermelon plants in the background have enjoyed the system and are blooming.
