How to Paint Geometric Figures on a Wall, this is a super easy project that doesn't require any special skills or aesthetic design, but looks super fun once completed. This example is from a nursery/playroom bedroom remodel we did for our youngest son.
For this project you will need:
- Paint in two colors, one for the base coat that will cover the entire room and an accent color
- Good quality painters tape.
- Loose sheets to protect your floors and furniture.
- A putty scraper.
Step 1: Preparation

Using painter's tape, cut out and anything else you don't want to paint. If necessary, apply a couple of coats of primer.
We also had to sand our walls before priming, since this room originally had a jungle animal mural. If you have plain paint, you don't need to sand.
Plue over the roof line and paint on your base coat.
We chose a light blue. Your base coat will be the color that shows up as geometric stripes on the final product.
The children had fun helping with this part. 🙂
Once the base coat is dry, remove the tape. Ideally all surfaces, but at least freshly painted ones.
Wait at least 48 hours before proceeding to the next step.
Step 2: Engraving the pattern and painting

After the base coat is on, wait at least 48 hours before continuing with this step.
Recording the pattern:
Before you do anything else, you'll want to tape off the edges of your wall with good quality painter's tape. It comes in different widths.
We chose the widest one because we knew we were making big, thick shapes.
Tip for getting straight lines:
Let the tape guide you. Don't pull on it to try to force straight lines. Keep it a little loose and just smooth gently with your hand as you go.
Once you're happy with your design, use the plastic putty scraper or credit card (or other less valuable loyalty card) and run it across each of your tape lines to firmly press the tape down.
This is KEY to getting crisp lines and avoiding paint leaks.
You want your tape to be as flat and firm as possible.
Then go ahead and paint your top layer.
Two coats should do it. Allow to dry for at least 4 hours between coats, after top coat.
Step 3: Remove the tape

After letting the paint dry for at least four hours, look for an edge of tape and begin removing it. Go slowly, pulling the tape back for best results.
After you've removed all the tape, you're done!
Variations: Try painting the shapes a couple of different colors, or varying the shades of your base coat. If you have a larger or minimalist space, try using contrasting colors for the shapes.
