Classic skates: which is the best to buy? Tips and recommendations - Grand Goldman 2026

Skating is one of the most fun activities there is. Human beings have always loved speed and freedom, and what more could we want if we can combine both in a physical activity while

Skating is an activity that, if done correctly, can burn many calories without being as exhausting or stressful as (we mean at the joint level), so if you have any problem of that type, ¡don't hesitate to start skating!

What to consider when buying roller skates

Type of four-wheel skates

There are many types of four-wheel skates, so depending on what we want, we will have to choose between one or the other. Within these types of skates, we have indoor skates for performing jumps and spins. They are very hard and rigid boots. We have speed skates for, as the name suggests, reaching high speeds. They usually have 62 mm wheels. We have parallel skates, which are sneaker-style, for not picking up as much speed and being more comfortable. We have outdoor skates, for roller hockey, whose wheels are softer. Finally, we have recreational skates, for adults and children, and they are the most standard.

Wheel diameter according to build

The hardness and diameter of the wheel will depend mainly on the terrain where we are going to skate. Even so, if we are an occasional skater of small or medium build, the wheels will need to be 62-65 mm. If we have more experience with a medium or robust build, we will need to buy 70 mm wheels. Finally, regardless of build, if we cover long distances, we will need to buy 76-80 mm wheels.

Types of boots

If you plan to go on a trip or cover very long distances, choose stiffer boots for more stability. Additionally, you can replace the inner lining of this shoe in case of any damage. On the other hand, if you want manageable skates, choose boots with a softer, more breathable, and lighter sole.

Axles and plates of the skates

Four-wheel skates are equipped with an axle and a plate underneath. Most plates are made of nylon, which makes the skates lighter, and the axles are made of aluminum, which makes them more durable but heavier. The softer the materials, the more maneuverability the skates will have, and the harder they are, the more directional stability.
