On this occasion we will teach you how to make a modular rug, which you can easily place in any room of your home .
Many stores that sell floor finishes and/or do rug projects have a pile of cheap leftover rugs lying around.
These leftovers are often a big mix of all kinds of colors, so they are no longer suitable for finishing an entire room.
For the most part, these never-used tiles end up in a dirty garage or shed, thrown away, or installed somewhere where a low-budget floor finish is needed and aesthetics aren't a big deal.
In most cases, this is a discount on a new quality functional product and that is a sad thing.
Therefore, I came up with a simple solution; Eliminate the limited pattern possibilities of standard squares and cut them into different shapes, so the variety of colors will become a great advantage instead of a problem.

IMPORTANT:
Think about your safety! Make sure you are well prepared and use good tools before you start! Cutting carpet tiles is a job that you should take seriously, as it is a strong and durable material and requires a lot of force to cut.
Only use rulers that have high edges (to prevent the blade from coming out of your direction and potentially hurting your hand). Do not do this project alone, for safety reasons.
Use sharp blades as this will save a lot of energy.
The blades become blunt easily due to the strong backing of the tiles.
Steps on how to make a modular rug:
Step 1: Choose your carpet tiles

Materials:
- 7 Tangram mats, so that each individual part of the tangram puzzle has its own color. Bright colors work great for this project 🙂 Try not to bring Boucle carpet tiles because once they are cut...their edges are very rough and often disturb the lines (creating ugly gaps) Frieze carpet tiles work great!
- A cutting mat, could be scrap wood or anything really
- 1 Stanley knife + new blades
- A large roll of masking tape or masking tape, only use good quality material
- 1 Ruler with a good high edge or use a straight metal profile With high edges and handlebar.
Action!:
Take one of your chips and turn it over. Now draw the Tangram system on the back of the tile.
Step 2: Cut the tile into Tangram shapes

Cut your tile into Tangram shapes, making it as precise as possible, for a better fit later. Be careful with the cut!
Step 3: Repeat the above steps with the other carpet tiles

Repeat the marking and cutting process with the other tiles you have so you have all the pieces ready for your final rug 🙂
Step 4: Puzzle time!

Assemble the apartment until you find the design that you like the most.
Step 5: Assembly time!

Use the masking tape to connect all the individual parts. flip the design over (carefully) and add strips of ribbon to all the conconnections to make sure all parts are securely fastened.
You're ready! Time to enjoy your hard work.
