Bordeaux impresses with its elegant old town, magnificent squares such as the Place de la Bourse and a successful mix of historical and modern architecture. The city is picturesquely located on the Garonne and offers numerous opportunities for walks along the waterfront or through charming neighborhoods. Art, culture and a vibrant culinary scene make Bordeaux a diverse and inspiring destination. To provide a little inspiration for your next trip to the French metropolis, here are my 7 favorite places in Bordeaux.
1. The Saint-André Cathedral of Bordeaux – a must-see
The Saint-André Cathedral is located on Place Pey-Berland, from where you can enjoy an ice cream or other delicacies. This very magnificent cathedral has existed for almost 200 years. I was particularly impressed architecturally, which is why I would recommend a visit there to everyone and it is one of my favorite places in Bordeaux.
2. The Bassins des Lumières in Bordeaux
Exhibitions take place regularly in the Bassins des Lumières - but not as you might expect. Light is used: projectors, for example, are used to project an artist's paintings onto the huge walls. During the performance you will also learn many interesting facts, both historical and personal, about the celebrity shown (at least that was the case at a Mozart performance). In addition, visually impressive transitions between the different works of art are created. The whole thing is accompanied by poetic and dramatic music.
3. The Musée de l’illusion Bordeaux – A perfect destination in Bordeaux
Das Musée de l’illusion Bordeaux ist ein spannendes Museum, in dem einem mit lustigen Effekten Streiche gespielt werden – ein Erlebnis für Groß und Klein. So kann man sich zum Beispiel vor einen speziellen Spiegel stellen, der den Eindruck erweckt, als wäre man teilweise durchsichtig. Es bietet laut „witfm“ insgesamt mehr als 70 interaktive Illusionen. Jede Station wird dabei durch wissenschaftliche Erklärungen ergänzt, die auf verständliche Weise die Mechanismen hinter den Illusionen erläutern.

4. Place de la Victoire in Bordeaux
Place de la Victoire, one of my favorite places in Bordeaux, is a wonderful place to spend some time - and not just because the square itself is beautiful and offers many options for eating. From here you can also get directly to a shopping and café mile. In the streets behind there are numerous shops - from high-quality brands to cozy cafés and restaurants to small no-name shops and vintage stores. Here you can update your wardrobe while fortifying yourself with a coffee or matcha.
5. The beautiful architecture of the houses in Bordeaux
Ich bin immer gern durch Bordeaux spaziert, denn die Straßen sind einfach wunderschön. Viele von ihnen sind mit Blumen, Pflanzen oder anderweitig kunstvoll dekoriert. Besonders gefallen haben mir die Rue Pas-Saint-Georges und die Rue Saint-James, wo hübsche Blumen von den Balkonen hingen. Am Abend wirken diese kleinen Straßen durch den warmen Schein der Laternen fast magisch. Diese romantische Atmosphäre lädt dazu ein, in einem der vielen kleinen Restaurants zu speisen. Genau das habe ich getan und nach einem ausgiebigen Spaziergang im HUSH HUSH zu Abend gegessen. Das Lokal bietet beispielsweise vietnamesische Küche, aber auch klassische französische Gerichte.

6. A famous food court in Bordeaux
The Halles de Bacalan are a highly recommended destination. Whether healthy or unhealthy, salty or sweet, a lot or a little - there is something for every taste here. The food market is notorious for its good food - which I can only confirm.
7. Léognan near Bordeaux
Wer bereit ist, etwa eine halbe Stunde mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln oder dem Auto zu fahren, findet im kleinen Vorort Léognan einen ruhigen, touristenfreien Ort für einen entspannten Spaziergang am Wasser. Besonders gut eignet sich dafür der Lac Bleu (in der Nähe des Chemin du Peych Cazaux). Danach lohnt sich ein Besuch im Restaurant La Force de Léognan, das traditionelle, ländliche Gerichte anbietet. Auch das Personal ist dort ausgesprochen freundlich.
