Picture having your favorite meal labeled as disgusting and inappropriate simply because someone else disapproves of it. That’s precisely the unsettling experience recounted by Reddit user flowergardens0. She detailed an unexpected phone call from her son’s teacher, who criticized the lunch he brought to school, deeming it distracting and revolting to fellow students. As a Korean, the user’s son has a preference for Korean cuisine, particularly enjoying the inclusion of Kimchi in his lunchbox alongside other treats.
This incident left OP perplexed, prompting her to share the story online, seeking the internet’s perspective on the matter. The teacher’s remarks raised questions about cultural sensitivity and personal food choices. Let’s dive into this peculiar narrative and explore through the thoughts of the internet on this unexpected clash between culinary preferences and societal expectations. 1. I would like to know what food falls under the category of “inappropriate” because I have never heard this before.
2. One day after picking her son up from school, OP received a call from his teacher telling her to stop packing her son disgusting lunches.
3. OP felt a shock as she had maintained a very good relationship with her son’s teacher in the past. The teacher rudely informed the mother that the lunches had a very unpleasant odor that would distract other students.
4. OP responded by saying the lunches she packed for her son were based on his liking and preference.
5. OP shared the food she packed her son is Korean including kimchi, spam, celery sticks, and cheese.
I swear there is no point in giving your kid lunches you know he/she won’t eat. You give your child the lunch you know he/she will eat during the lunch break as it is a very important meal for them to stay nourished. If I love kimchi which has an unpleasant odor and my mom packs me a pizza that smells delicious but I dislike it, there is no point in packing it for me because the lunchbox will come back home untouched.
6. OP told the teacher she won’t be changing her son’s lunches and that it isn’t her problem that other students get distracted by what her son has to eat during his lunch break.
This kind of behavior coming from a teacher who we consider our children’s second mother at school is so unfortunate and unacceptable. This cannot go unnoticed. OP must report this teacher to the higher-ups for being blatantly r*cist towards the Korean child. Perhaps the report of this matter may result in many toxic teachers being revealed, which I am sure there are.

7. OP wants to give her son what she knows he will, for sure, eat during the lunch break. The teacher, however, called this response of OP’s unacceptable…via an email.

8. The whole scenario confused OP so she knocked on the doors of the AITA community to ask if her response made her an AH or not.

11. I don’t think the school realizes how many infected teachers they have hired…perhaps a Pandora’s box is bound to open if OP reports this teacher to the higher-ups for her r*cism.

12. While the majority declared OP safe in this scenario, a portion of the community declared her AH because of how terrible the kimchi smells, something that would make the other students feel uncomfortable in a closed space.
