Carnations, part of the Caryophyllaceae family, are making a stylish comeback in gardens after years on the garage forecourt. Once dismissed as fusty bedding plants, these vibrant blooms now deserve a prime spot in your flower beds. With their rich colors and long-lasting cut flowers, carnations offer both beauty and practicality for modern gardeners.
Why Carnations Are Trending Again
The carnation revival is driven by a shift toward nostalgic, cottage-garden aesthetics mixed with contemporary planting schemes. Sweet williams, a close relative, have been spotted in cutting beds at places like Murray Edwards College in Cambridge, mingling with poppies and cosmos. Their boiled-sweet colors and bushy form add charm to any arrangement.
